GPAS: Volunteer Classification
It is recognized that most everyone can volunteer and be useful in some capacity in the Greek Peak Adaptive Snowsports program.
1. General Staff
Requirements: Must be able to assist in any duties not involved with on-the-hill
participant responsibilities.Responsibilities: May be able to assist
in jobs such as administrative, janitorial, special events, assisting
participants in non-skiing/riding functions.
2. Trainee
Requirements: Must be
able to communicate with participants effectively. Must be able to ski/ride at
an intermediate
level,
must have good judgement and be able to accept responsibilities
which require
decisions dealing with safety issues.Responsibilities: Must be
willing to attend training sessions and help instructors with participants.
3. Guide
Requirements:
Must have completed 18 hours of dryland/on snow basic training.
Must have completed 18 hours of audits
with positive recommendations from instructor or supervisor.Responsibilities:
Must be available to work with participants on Sundays, be willing
to work either alone or with
an instructor with participants to facilitate a positive, safe skiing/riding
experience. Teaching skiing/snowboarding is not required.
4. Instructor
Requirements:
Must have completed successfully requirements for guide. Must
have completed
an additional
18 hours of clinics
about instructing. Must have taught under supervision and received
a positive recommendation from at least two senior staff members. Responsibilities.
Must be available to teach on Sundays. Will be able to successfully
facilitate
learning in students
at the entry/beginning level, will be able to supervise a trainee
in an instructional setting.
5. Senior Instructor
Requirements:
Will have successfully completed requirements for instructor
and have completed
at
least 150 hours of instruction.
Will have received a recommendation from at least two supervisors.
Will continue to pursue education to become a more successful
ski/snowboard teacher.
Will have demonstrated the ability to teach at a minimum
PSIA/AASI Adaptive Level II level.
Responsibilities: Will be available
most Sundays to work with clients and other instructors.
Will be able
to assist in administrative duties when required.
6. Supervisor
Requirements:
Must have achieved the level of senior instructor. Must
have demonstrated leadership skills, must have
the ability and desire to organize and facilitate, and
must be recommended by the GPSD Board of Directors.Responsibilities:
Will be able to
effectively understand performance of participants and staff
and be
able to lead staff
to achieve effective performance.
